Lacarte, Anne

LACARTE, Anne

1933 - 2022

Anne Mae was born December 17, 1933, to Frank and Jean Johnston, Kenabeek, Ontario, the second youngest of 10 children. She was especially close to her sisters Jean (Mitchell) and Betty (Pearson), and when this trio and their families got together, you could be sure there was going to be lots of card-playing, plenty of good music, and way too much food and drink.

Mom was this tiny little whirlwind who could run circles around people half her age, still tending gardens at her seniors’ apartment into her 80s. She was a terrific cook and fabulous baker. She loved road trips and snowmobiling, crosswords and sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. A simple life suited her just fine.

Mom was gifted a second chance at love when Barry Lacarte came into her life. Devoted to making her happy, Barry gave her the life of travel and companionship she always wanted.

During the last few years, dementia began stealing mom away one memory at a time until the past became her present. As cruel as this disease can be, the memory thief seemed to be letting mom relive the happier times of her life most days, and we’re grateful for that. Eighty-eight is a good long life, but we could see her getting tired. On February 21, mom passed away at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. As per her wishes, there will be no funeral. A Celebration of Life is planned for the spring.

Mom leaves behind five children, Cheryl Archer (Keven), twins Dale Peever (Cheryl) and Darwin Peever (Holly), Lincoln Peever (Nancy) and Terry Lynn Potvin (Carey); 11 grandkids, Ryan (deceased) and Holli Archer; Quinlan and Keegan Peever; Scout and Ella Peever; Taylor and Bryan Peever; Zachary and Josh Magnusson and Emily Potvin, as well as seven great-grandchildren.

I am sorry to hear of Aunt Anne’s passing. It has been a long while since I saw her but I have many good memories from childhood days. Dementia is such a cruel disease but I am happy to hear she was able relive good recollections through some of that confusing time. Please know that you are all in my heart and thoughts.

The Family

For 25+ years, I was blessed to have known Anne and to have her play a major role in my life. For my sons - Quinlan and Keegan - she was a "Nana" extraordinaire! She filled every visit with great food, often music, and always fun and so much laughter. I am sure it has been difficult for all of you, as dimentia took hold. May she now rest in peace.
