Cozac (née Newman), Audrey

COZAC (NÉE NEWMAN), Audrey

1928 - 2023

It is with heavy hearts we announce, surrounded by loving family, Audrey Cozac passed on December 28 th at North Bay Regional Hospital in her 96 th year.

Predeceased in 2011 by her dearly beloved husband, Peter Cozac and her son, Creston Cozac in 2015. Also predeceased by her parents George and Minnie Newman, sister Evelyn Cline and brother James Newman. Survived by her loving sister Gloria Kelusky (Rod).

Loving mother to Marilyn Aube, Calvin Cozac (Linda), Joclyn Cozac and honorary daughter Sharon Desjardins.

Adored Grandma to Nicole Aube, Jacqui Aube (John Gowing), Peter Cozac (Nicole), Michael Cozac and Kayla Cozac (Tom Davidson).

Great-grandmother to Alexandra, Isabelle, Sebastian and Jeremy.

She will be missed by very dear life-long friend Betty Allen.

Audrey was born and grew up on a farm in Hanbury Township, north of New Liskeard, Ontario, where she developed her strong work ethic, tending to farm chores, especially during WWII when her brother was overseas. She also acquired her devotion to church and community as she attended every conceivable meeting and function with her mother, who taught her to sing, play the pump organ and piano.

She attended Normal School in North Bay and became a teacher, until she met the love of her life on the train station platform in Englehart. They married in 1950 and spent the next 61 years together in Englehart, raising their family.

Together, they spent countless hours in local arenas and ball parks supporting youth sports in various capacities. They travelled multiple times across Canada and United States pulling their trailer, enjoying camping life.

Audrey was devoted to her family, caring for her son Creston his entire life and her husband Peter in his later years when his health failed. All the while she continued to be active in the church, holding board positions, sitting on all committees, volunteering hours to events and delicious baking. Her beautiful singing voice could be heard in the church choir and many community choirs.

Audrey lived her life well – a life of example, inspiring family and friends alike. She was loved by all and will be missed very much.

Celebration of life for Audrey Cozac will take place in the spring.

Our sincere condolences to all in the family. Audrey was such a wonderful person. Always with such a bright smile. Pete, Audrey and Creston - were not only great neighbours for years but also good friends. As kids we'd them them at the rink and ballpark all the time.
Audrey is now "home" and enjoying a chat with Peter - smiling down watching.

Thinking of you all,
Roxanne, Pat and Steve Rodgers
