“Sometimes, the most beautiful reunions happen after the toughest goodbyes”

McLAUGHLIN, Barbara - With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara Ann McLaughlin, on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, at the age of 91. Barbara is reunited with her soul mate Clayton McLaughlin, who preceded her in death on July 3, 2021.

Left behind to mourn her passing are her children, Charles McLaughlin and Cathy, Lorrie Brough and Robbie, Michael McLaughlin and Bonnie, and Dale McLaughlin and Barb.

Survived by her grandchildren Carla McLaughlin, Clayton McLaughlin and Valerie, Meagan McLaughlin and Derek Waldron, Robert Brough and Kayla, Brandon Brough and Paige, Jennifer Doherty and Dave Copland, Brandon Doherty, Darcy McLaughlin and Kalen; her great-grandchildren Keiran, Charlie, Jake, Benny, Hayden, Will, Theo and Adria; and her great- great grandson Peyton.

Barbara is also survived by her sisters Donna Presley, Gail Millen and Jim; brothers Brian Ringrose and Rita, Richard Ringrose and Diane, Murray Ringrose, Terry Ringrose and Barb; her brother in-law Vern McLaughlin and Jo-Anne, sister in-laws Elaine Brough and Nancy Hutchison as well as many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was pre-deceased by her parents Russel and Alberta Ringrose; brothers Jackie Ringrose and Bobby Ringrose, sister Shiela Ferguson, grandson Shane McLaughlin; in-laws Charles and Irene McLaughlin, Norma and Alan Dobratz, Laura McLaughlin, Ina and Dave Vallance, Wilbert McLaughlin, Bonnie Ringrose, Bill Ferguson and Raymond Presley.

Barbara and Clayton met and married in Kirkland Lake, where they settled and raised their family. Barb took pride in raising her family but also had time for fun. Many beautiful memories were made at the family cottage on Labyrinth Lake, the hunt camp or just hosting large gatherings at their home. Nothing made her happier than a houseful of Family and friends, enjoying the food that she had prepared for days, especially her delicious desserts. Everyone felt welcome at the McLaughlin house, and you never went home hungry. If you were lucky, you got to take home a blueberry pie! Barb was an avid gardener and took pride in her prize-winning flowers and vegetables with the Horticultural Society. Knitting was a passion of Barbs. Every family member was gifted a new pair of mitts or slippers every Christmas. Barb and Clayton were also active members of the Kiwanis Club, taking a special interest in the Kiwanis Music Festival. Later in life, Barb went back to work at the local Reitman’s department store and even did some modelling for the local fashion shows! She was a beautiful and proud woman.

The Family would like to thank the staff at Teck Pioneer Residence for the years of love and care given to mom in her final years. Thank you to family and friends for reaching out and reminding us why mom was so special. Donations can be mailed directly to the Teck Pioneer Residence (145 A Government Road West, Kirkland Lake, ON P2N 3P4) in Memoriam of Barbara McLaughlin. Cremation has taken place a memorial service will be held at a future date.

Death is never an end, but a “To Be Continued”

My condolences on your loss.
My memories of Barb stretch back to watching her and the others in the Women’s Softball League on the ball field, eager for the day I could run in their footsteps. She was a force to be reckoned with, and by all accounts she lived her life in full. Lucky lady.

The McLaughlin and extended family

Chuck, Cathy, Mike, Bonnie, Lorrie, Robbie, Dale and Barbara, many grandchildren and a great grandchild, please accept our condolences on the passing of your dear Mom, grandmother and great grandmother.

Barbara, Clayton and their 4 children were such great neighbours on Federal Street. It was a tight knit community that I haven’t experienced again after getting married and living in different parts of KL. I have very fond memories of the McLaughlin family.

Rest In Peace Barb, Clayton is happy to have his sweetheart back in his arms.

Both I and and years later, my boys delivered papers to the McLaughlins at their house on Federal Street. Very enterprising, they ran their cartage business out of the modest house as well. Both Barbara and Clayton are again reunited and they will be missed in the old Federal.

I knew her first as Mrs. McLaughlin; my neighbor and the mother of my friends. I also knew her as Barb through the various hats she wore in the community. She was a great and fun person. Know that I’m thinking of you. It is so hard to lose a mom. I hope your healing journeys are gentle. Prayers to you all.

All

I took a "serious liking" to Auntie Barbara the moment we met!

Her love of family and of life clearly guided her every action.

It seemed to me that Barb was the perfect Matriarch for the family - wise, kind, salt of the earth.

Rest in Peace Barb with your soulmate Clayton.
