MCMILLAN, Basil A.

1933 - 2024

Mc MILLAN, BASIL

(1933-2024)

It is with broken hearts that we had to say good-bye to Basil McMillan, age 90. Basil passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at the Blanche River Health in Kirkland Lake.

Basil was an amazing father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his son Douglas MacMillan and daughter Cathy Filion, his one remaining brother Keith McMillan, granddaughters Dora (Sean) Lauzon and Dana MacMillan. He will fondly be remembered by his many nieces and nephews. . He is predeceased by his wife Lola (nee: St.Cyr), daughter Susan, son Joseph, his parents Donald and Claudia (nee: Hurteau) McMillan, brothers Melvin, Richard, Arnold, daughter-inlaw Debbie and son-inlaw Jean-Pierre.

Basil worked for McLellan Bus Line for 50 plus years and I am sure he will be remembered by many people for driving them to school each day. He also drove the bus for the KL hockey teams when they played their games out of town. Basil, volunteered and was a member of the Encore Club of Kirkland Lake where he enjoyed the activities and many delicious meals. Also Basil was a member of the Lions Club and the Matchawan Legion. He loved his mini farm in Otto Township where he would be puttering all day with farming or old cars. He loved listening to old country music but his favorite hobby was going to Yard Sales to find that true treasure . He had one if not two of everything.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Gorecki, the wonderful staff and Doctors at the Blanche River Health, Closing the Gap ( PSW Glen for your kindness and listening to country music with dad), and Home and Community Care Support Service North East.

There will be no service. If you choose you can leave a donation to Encore Club of Kirkland Lake or a charity of your choice.

Dad you are our hero and until we meet again you will always be in our hearts.

To the McMillan family

This comes as a great surprise and brings back many childhood memories. Basil was my school bus driver for a couple of years back in the 1970s. I had no idea of what he had become and that he had lived up until now!

Please allow me to express my deepest condolences to the McMillan family. May Basil rest in peace and I am truly sorry for your loss.

Condolences Cathy and family. Basil was my bus driver from 69 to 73, his patience was amazing and probably more than we deserved. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to read of the passing of Mr. McMillan. He was the best bus driver of all times. He was always so kind and friendly, never cranky with a busload of noisy kids. A fine person. Even after us kids were all grown up he would always remember us and have a hello and a smile whenever you met him anywhere in town. I hope he had a good life and will now meet up with his wife and Joe who was also a very nice guy. Rest in peace Basil.

The McMillans

Having grown up hanging out at the bus station with my dad, Basil was always around. I've always had fond memories of him. I recall one year our pet bird 'blue birdy' went to the farm to live with Basil.
Sorry to hear of his passing but reading the comments of others he lived the rest of his life as I remembered him kind and gentle. May he rest in peace.
