Betty Joan Calvert passed away peacefully at age 83 on March 13, 2021, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She is predeceased by her beloved husband John (2012), her infant son Richard, her parents George and Mabel Herod, her sisters Dorothy Fowler and Sharon Carey, and her brother-in-law George Fowler.

Betty is survived by her children Joanne O'Driscoll, Catherine Calvert (Jean-Guy), and Lynn Northcott (Kelly), her grandson Adam O'Driscoll, her brother-in-law Keith Carey, and her niece and nephews Jim Fowler (Carole), Stephen Fowler (Charlene), Shannon Carey, Trevis Carey and Michael Carey (Debbie).

Betty was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario but spent most of her life in New Liskeard and Dymond Township. Before marriage, Betty worked as a switchboard operator in Hamilton, Ontario. She married John Calvert in 1960 and moved to Uno Park in Dymond Township. Betty spent her final 9 years in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Betty was happiest when she was with her family, relatives and friends, and was known for her gracious hospitality. She loved good conversation, playing cards, reading, and enjoying a nice sweet treat. Outgoing and friendly, Betty radiated a sunny warmth to those who knew her. She added joy and love to many people’s lives.

With God's help, she faced life's obstacles with determination and was always a source of strength to her family and friends. Betty was a loving, caring, and generous Christian. She is now with God and reunited with her husband John, her son Richard, and all the loved ones who predeceased her.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate care team and friends at Thunder Bay Pioneer Ridge Long Term Care and St. Joseph’s Hospital for giving Betty love, encouragement, and care, and for helping her feel part of their families too.

A celebration of life will be planned post-pandemic.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Betty may be made to the charity of your choice.
