1943 - 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Brenda Smith on June 18, 2025. Brenda has now been reunited with her beloved husband, Michael Smith, who passed away in October 2007.
Born on November 24, 1943, in Lees, Manchester, England, Brenda was the cherished daughter of Doris and John Henry Shaw. In October 1978, Brenda and Michael made the courageous decision to move their family from England to Canada, where they built a warm and loving home and embraced a new life together.
Brenda was a devoted mother to Philip (Louise), Amanda (late Mike), and Vivienne (Stirling). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jessica (Eric), Kasey-Lyn, Shaun-Michael (Roxxy), Melissa (Andrew), Meghan, Savannah, and Dawson (Danielle). Brenda’s legacy continues through her many adored great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.
A woman of warmth, wit, and unwavering devotion, Brenda had a deep love for dogs, a lifelong passion for reading, and an unwavering loyalty to her Toronto Blue Jays—rarely missing a game and always cheering them on with enthusiasm.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated staff at Teck Pioneer Residence, whose care and kindness meant so much to Brenda and to all who loved her.
Brenda’s memory will be forever treasured by all who knew her. Her gentle spirit, fierce love for her family, and infectious smile will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held to honour Brenda’s life at Teck Pioneer Residence on Sunday, June 29 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to your local animal shelter or charity of your choice.
