GREER, Dennis

1949 - 2024

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dennis Greer announces his passing on May 8 th , in his 74 th year.

Dennis was born on August 18th 1949, in Kirkland Lake Ontario to Geraldine (nee Kruger) and Delmar Greer. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Donald, sister Darlene and by his granddaughter Ataya.

Dennis met the love of his life Brenda (nee Lauzon) in 1980 and she was his best friend and soul mate for the next 44 years. It was only with her loving care, and support, that he was able to remain at home for as long as he did.

He was the loving father of four children: Lori Greer (Scott), Kim Banks (Peter), Derek Greer and Natasha Greer (Darcy). He was Papa and Grandpa to Tana, Mitchel, Skylar, Ataya, Jeremy, Tristen, Kobe, Brandon, Jerid, Kalyn, Foster, Noah and Annika. He was also blessed with 6 Great Grandchildren Camilla, Avie, Elijah, Juniper, Lily and Esme. It was no secret that our Dad would do anything for his children and grandchildren, and that he was always just a phone call  away. Our father taught us about unconditional love, forgiveness, and kindness. He was also the strongest man we know; in the last 15 years he battled cancer, Type 1 diabetes, kidney, and liver diseases. This toughness was also a testament to how much he loved his family and how he didn’t want to leave them.

Dennis spent his youth, and adulthood, in Larder Lake and Kirkland Lake. He laid the asphalt on many Northern Ontario roads as a foreman for TNR and also owned Greer’s Construction with his brother Don.

We recall so many happy memories with our Dad. A trip to Canada’s Wonderland where his feet were aching from his high-heeled 80’s boots; warm summer days swimming at Crystal Beach or Culver Park and so many weekends cuddled up on his couch spent watching Hulk Hogan on WWF and Kung Foo movies.

Our Dad was a man who enjoyed simple pleasures. Coffee at Tim Hortons with his best buddy Ed and the other “boys”. Watching CNN or Star Trek on his comfy couch and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved the gift of a new ball cap and never left the house without one.

Our Dad’s last few months were spent at the Blanche River Health facility where the health care team took amazing care of him. He was surrounded by friends and family, and his room was full of love, laughter and smiles. We made sure to keep him on his toes, and he often shook his head at our antics. We hope that we were able to show him just how very much we loved him.

We are all very grateful my Dad had the doctors, nurses and PSWs from the 4th floor to take care of him. Their kindness and love made all the difference as my Dad battled different health concerns. We are also very thankful for the support that Nora and Diane gave him and our entire family.

We know that our Dad is with his granddaughter Taya now. He didn’t like the heat, but she’s convinced him to sit on the beach with her for a while. They are basking in the sunshine with our Dad drinking a Rum and Pepsi while she sips on her glass of wine.

A celebration of life will take place on June 1 st  from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Kirkland Lake Bingo Hall located at 38 Duncan St North in Kirkland Lake.

Dennis's family

My condolences to the family, I often seen Dennis, Brenda and Ed at Tim Hortons East.
During my last stay at the hospital recently I met Dennis as I was sharing the same room.
We chatted about his paving hwy construction experience as I worked as a hwy contruction technician wjth MTO.
We also talked about our health issues, we had our struggles but overall I mentioned to him he was a warrior with great courage and resilience.
He had a kind demeanour and a great affection for his family.
