1941 - 2023
George Canning of Happy Valley, Goose Bay, Newfoundland passed away on September 18th, 2023 at the Blanche River Hospital in Kirkland Lake, surrounded by his loving family.
George was born in Roddickton, Newfoundland to Ambrose and Irene Canning on June 13, 1941. He was the oldest of four children until later in life he found an older brother.
George is survived by his Wife, Millicent (nee Brown) Canning, his son Barry (Natasha), daughter Sharon (Ivan), his sister Peggy (Guy) Fillier, and brothers Stafford (Madeline) Canning, Garry (Karen) Canning, Ches (Juilia) Gill, his grandchildren Brandon, Mark and Hanna, as well as many other close relatives and friends.
Predeceased by two children, his infant son Larry and his daughter Sherrilynn. George is also predeceased by his parents Ambrose and Irene Canning as well as his in-laws Stewart and Dulcie Brown.
Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held in Happy Valley at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Georges’ memory can be made to the Blanche River Hospital in Kirkland Lake for the exceptional care that was provided to George during his last days.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family Sharon. Hardest thing in life is losing a family member within your own family. Your Father I know meant the world to you. Your Love was so very strong between you. I remember you telling stories of your parents at work, the excitement in your voice when you were going to see them. Your Father was blessed having you as his daughter. His body may have worn out yet his spirit lives on. It lives on inside you and your brothers. I lost my Father 11yrs ago and a day does not go by that I don’t think of him and some thoughts bring laughter and others bring tears yet I know he is with me. They are never far away.
