Best, Hazel Mary (nee McDermott) – It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Hazel Best, on November 3, 2011 three days prior to her 92nd birthday at Teck Pioneer Residence in Kirkland Lake Ontario. Hazel will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her daughters Linda (Bill) Hamilton of Nanoose Bay, BC and Valerie Best of Kirkland Lake; grandchildren Kelly (John) Edmonton, Tracy (John Paul) Vancouver, Andrew (Karran) Vancouver, Darcy (Michelle) Timmins and great grandchildren Keion, Drew, Bodhi, Makenna and Coleman. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Grace McDermott, Betty Best and many nieces and nephews. Hazel was predeceased by her loving husband Aubrey “Red” (1919-2009); parents Mary and James McDermott; sister Marion Anderson and brothers Ed and Les (Chris). Born Nov. 6, 1919 in Cobalt, Ontario, Hazel moved to Kirkland Lake as a young girl, attended KLCVI, worked at the Telephone Company, TBS Dept Store, Mary’s Ladies Wear, and Joan’s Dress Shop. She was a great bowler, loved to play cards, was a member of the Encore club for a number of years and attended Holy Name Parish. Hazel will be missed for her wonderful smile and helping hands. Thank you to all the staff at TPR for your years of care and support. The family will welcome friends at the MONETTE & FRENCH FUNERAL HOME (450 Government Road West, Kirkland Lake, ON. P2N 3L1) on Tuesday November 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Followed by a Joint Celebration of Life for Hazel and Aubrey “Red” at 11:30 a.m. in the “Teck-Hughes” Chapel of the Funeral Home. Together Hazel and Aubrey will be laid to rest in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery. Donations in Hazel’s memory may be made to Teck Pioneer Residence Activity Fund (P.O. Box 3800 Kirkland Lake, ON. P2N 3P4), Holy Name of Jesus Parish (39 Kirkland Street West Kirkland Lake, ON P2N 2G3) or to a charity of your choice.Offer Condolence for the family of Hazel Best
