HAMDEN (NÉE HATAM), Ishey

1926 - 2021

Peacefully our mom, stepmom and grandmother (Situ) at the age of almost 95 years old passed away in the early morning of March 6, 2021.

She was born on March 10, 1926, in Karaoun, Lebanon and was married to our dad, Charles Hamden after his first wife Jenny (Hallick) passed away at an early age. After their marriage in Lebanon, they settled in the bustling mining town of Kirkland Lake and we’re blessed with three girls, Norma, Christine and Diane. Although she was not educated and could not read or write in English or Arabic, she loved her new peaceful country of Canada and brought her amazing talents with her. She was a concrete fabricator, Lebanese chef, seamstress, log splitter, gardener and operated a bait store in the basement of our home.

She is pre-deceased by her loving husband Charles, stepson Alec and beautiful daughter Norma Evans.

She has left behind her daughters Christine Davis (Wayne),  Diane Werry (Kevin) and stepchildren Sid Hamden (Myrta), Gord Hamden (Elaine), Mariam Ewles (late Don and George) and many grandchildren.

Mom and Situ will always be remembered and loved as that enthusiastic, beautiful woman who loved her family and life, loved being a Canadian and being a mother to her three girls.

Sympathies to the Hamden family

I always remember your house in Chaput Hughes and someone would remark that Charles Hamden had brought himself a young wife from the old country. Turned out to be a remarkable life at that.

I am very saddened to hear of Ishey's passing. I used to be a psw and spent many hours with this wonderful lady in her home. We played cards, watched TV and laughed together while I cleaned for her. She was an amazing lady and will be missed
RIP Ishey

Sadness in the loss of your stepmom. She lived a long and good life as my mom did also. She passed away at 95+ in 2013. So many memories for all.

So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. My brothers, Chuck and Bert and I, recalled visiting your home in Chaput in the early 50's on Saturday mornings for music lessons. It was a happy home and most welcoming. It was sad when your first Mom passed away but everyone in Chaput was happy when your Dad brought a new wife from Lebanon to begin a new life for all. I wish I had been a more dedicated accordion player but at least, my brothers excelled. I have great memories of the Hamdens whose parents (all) must have taken great pride in the contributions that their offspring made to the Kirkland Lake community and beyond. That is indeed a legacy of which to be proud.
