In loving memory of Jean Pierre Filion, age 67 who passed away peacefully at the Kirkland Lake and District Hospital on April 22, 2022.
 
Jean Pierre is survived by his wife Cathy (nee MacMillan) and is loving cats that he rescued.
He is also survived by his sister Danielle Filion (Kane Connors), nephews Steve Brazeau (Lesley) Eric Chevrier, father-in-law Basil McMillan, brother-in-law Doug MacMillan, and nieces Dora MacMillan (Sean) and Dana MacMillan.
 
Jean Pierre is predeceased by his parents Reginald and Aline (nee Cayen) Filion, his baby sister Marie, and brother Jocelyn Filion. Also predeceased by his sister-in-law Susan MacMillan and brother-in-law Joe MacMillan.
 
Jean Pierre was born and raised in Hawkesbury, Ontario. He worked at Ivaco Rolling Mills for 30 years. After his retirement, he moved to Otto Township in 2010. He loved living in the country and being able to putter around outside working with old wood bringing it back to life as a new object.  His true love was scrollsawing, making ornaments and portraits out of scrap wood. JP volunteered for the community income tax program at the Encore Club for many years.  He was a board member for the Encore Club and helped with the kitchen peeling potatoes (known at the Potato Man)  for the canteen, also he volunteered working the bar. One of JP's favorite volunteer events was to play Santa for the animals at the Advocates for Northern Animals fundraisers.
 
JP moved to Extendicare Kirkland Lake in 2019 due to his stroke in 2018.  He considered Extendicare his new home and made many new friends with the other residents and the amazing staff.  JP loved his extended family.
 
As per JP's request, he will be cremated and there will be no service.
 
A special thank you and much love to ALL the staff at Extendicare Kirkland Lake. Also a huge thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Kirkland and District Hospital.

Extendicare Kirkland Lake,  Advocates for Northern Animals, or Kirkland and District Hospital Palliative care.
 
Rest in peace my love and fly with the angels. Until we meet again.

Jean-Pierre was a dedicated man in everything he did. Working with Robert at Ivaco for 30 years, he was a cousin, a co-worker and a very good friend. I remember when, just before Christmas every year, he brought a bottle of whiskey to Robert. He had a good sense of humor and we have many good souvenirs of him.

I was so saddened to hear that JP has passed away. I really enjoyed his sense of humor. He bought me a rubix cube cause I said I had trouble getting it right. He said he was willing to bet I would finally have success... all the squares were white. What a guy!
