CRAGG, John

1939 - 2021

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of John Cragg on Sunday, May 16, 2021, with his loving family by his side.

Predeceased by his son Larry, John is survived by his loving wife, Anne (Smith), of over 61 years; his children, Ivan (Louise) and Cheryl (Paul); grandchildren Shaun, Jason, Justin, Joshua, Max, and Carlea; great-grandchildren Evan, Daxton, Shayanne, and Emerson; sister Elaine (Bill), brother Vernon (Bonnie); and in-laws Barb Burrows (Fred), Ellen MacPherson (Milton), Jim Smith (Cathy) and Yvonne Reid; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John was a dedicated Lions member and church committee member, volunteering for everything and anything. He would often show up unannounced with hammer and tools in hand or start pitching in without being asked. John was a pillar of the community, consistently demonstrating a selfless and hardworking demeanor.

Anyone who knew John would tell you that he was also a skillful musician. His passion was the guitar, but there wasn’t an instrument he couldn’t play a tune on. He loved playing songs from his favourite artists mixed with a few ballads of his own. Our family is blessed to have many wonderful memories of John playing the guitar and singing for us.

John was a big family man and a great provider. He loved having his grandchildren visit and always put time and energy into doing the things he knew they loved. He had a magnetic personality, a wicked sense of humour, and an infectious laugh.

John and Anne spent time in Florida for 22 years, creating many wonderful memories. One of the things that he enjoyed while there was the daily happy hour, often performing music for his friends in the park.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the staff at Northview Nursing Home who cared for John over the last few years. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

Due to the present circumstances, a small family celebration will be scheduled when public health guidelines allow.

May there always be music in heaven!

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Charlton Englehart Lions Club would be greatly appreciated.
