June McRae,

JUNE MCRAE,

2021

Our hearts are broken as we announce the passing of June McRae on Wednesday, October 7th at the age of 94. She was greatly loved by her daughter Irene, son David, granddaughter Kara and great-grandchildren Emma and Jonathan. She was predeceased by her husband Al McRae in 1985, and was the only child of Sam and Elsie Pyper. To know June was to love her. She was kind, sweet and above all loving. She epitomized aging with grace and dignity. She saw the positive in everything and everyone. We will truly miss seeing her eyes light up when friends and family would enter the room.June was born in Toronto and lived in North Bay for a short while before her father was transferred to Kirkland Lake as the manager of the Canada Bread Company. It wasn’t too long before she met a handsome young hockey player at Friday night public skating. They were soon married and spent most of their married life on Algonquin Avenue raising their own children and everyone else’s on the street as was the custom in the sixties and seventies.June’s passion was figure skating. She skated as a young girl and for over 50 years travelled throughout Northern Ontario as a volunteer judge judging young skaters as they tried tests or competed in competitions. She was a much sought after judge and won many awards for her volunteer work in skating.June had a fulfilling life and she lived it well. She loved to travel, have coffee with friends and to simply be with her family. We were all very lucky to have had her in our lives. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to June’s friend extraordinaire; Joanne Morneault. Our family will be forever grateful for the time you spent with our mom. She loved you like family.Thank you as well to all her friends who visited or called her regularly, the nurses at the hospital and of course to everyone at TPR.Rest in peace mom. We love you!Offer Condolence for the family of June McRae

Irene and David, we are saddened and so sorry to hear of the passing of your Mother. She was a beautiful person and a wonderful friend whom we will miss dearly. We and the northern skating community will remember her fondly forever. Our deepest sympathies.

Have just learned of the passing of June and the first thing I remembered was how young she always looked . I remember most her greeting to me when she saw me after a long time. In 2000 a small group of figure skating people joined together in Vancouver for Worlds We travelled the north together for many happy times – upholding the standards prescribed by our training. June personified dedication and joy in the sport she loved. I met June’s husband in the 70s when we both took our husbands to Timmins to a competition In Toronto n ow I remember my time in the north with wonderful people like June. To June and her family please know how loved and appreciated she was to all of us.

My sincere condolences to you Irene, David and your family. June was such a beautiful lady inside and out. I fondly remember our chats at the grocery store. She was a devoted volunteer in our skating world. She seemed tireless in her commitment to skaters and coaches. I cant even begin to think of the numbers of miles she travelled to skating events to share her wisdom and expertise. My daughters Jennifer and Kate thought the world of her as did I. Skating has lost a real gem. She will always be remembered for her tireless contributions. Rest In Peace dear June Jane Brookfield & family

Irene and Family, Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of your mother, June. I would bet that Toller Cranston and Barbara Ann Scott are on your Mom’s to-visit list first thing. June was a good and loyal friend. She shared humorous tidbits of her life with us at work, and once she told of how she had a fender-bender one morning when she had driven your Dad to work at the Dairy. She only had on her night-gown, a sweater tossed over it and curlers in her hair. She said the officer that pulled up did his best not to laugh out loud. She couldn’t keep the grin off her face. She gave all us wonderful memories. RIP June.
