Wright, Margaret Mary

WRIGHT, Margaret Mary

1925 - 2023

The family of Margaret wish to announce her passing in Temiskaming Hospital on Friday March 24,2023 at the young age of 97.

Margaret Mary McFarlane was born on April 26, 1925 in New Liskeard to Annie and Ross McFarlane.

Margaret met the love of her life, Allan John Wright and they married in New Liskeard. They spent 68 years together and enjoyed life to the utmost.

Margaret and Allan raised two daughters whom they loved dearly., Vicky married to Alvin Willard and Jane married to Rick Watson.

And then came grandchildren Scott and Angie Willard, Ryan and Amy Watson.

Mom and dad so loved their grandkids and spent hours taking them on secret picnics, time at the cottage, family dinners celebrating many birthdays, lots of card games, fishing , and doing what outdoor loving families do.

The cottage was their sanctuary and years were spent there, not only just the two summer months but during the winter we skidooed every Sunday right after Church.

And then there were the numerous winters they spent at their home in Florida, enjoying the warm sunshine, the golf and the many friends they made during their time there.

Mom devoted her time to many volunteer organizations over the years. She was the last remaining Charter Member of the New Liskeard Lionettes and also working tirelessly for the Cancer Society, groups in St Johns Anglican Church and many more.

Mom and dad loved their games of bridge with the Buckhams on Friday nites sometimes after a round of golf.

And her bridge clubs she belonged to was so enjoyable for her. Her bridge club girls had fun when they got together for cards and dessert.

Speaking of dessert……….no meal was complete unless there was dessert. And she was an amazing baker………….her butter tarts, pies, Christmas cake, cookies………and even this past week she was still loving her sweets.

Mom loved to be in her garden tending to her flowers even well into her 90’s, knitted many sweaters, socks and mitts for us and the church, golfed, curled, loved to skate, walked at least once a day and was still playing the piano at the Manor not that long prior to her passing.

But most of all was her love of beating her PSW Jen or her son-in-laws Alvin and Rick at a game of Crib. And she would be so proud when she skunked them…….and we all heard about it……….

Mom loved getting emails from her family and friends, checking her Facebook posts and making interesting comments on some of them. She did puzzles and played Solitaire daily on her iPad. WE were blessed that each nite Jane and I could chat with her on Facetime and tuck her in for the nite. The Grandkids and greats grandkids had fun chatting with her on Facetime as well. They so loved their Gramma and GG.

Family was more important than anything else

We all ,family and friends, have been subject to Moms curiosity. She loved to ask questions, be in the know, keep up to date on everything from what everyone was doing to world events but that is how you learn and grow. Her passion in every aspect of life was an inspiration to those around her. She did set the bar quite high for all of us to follow

WE all learned amazing life skills from her……..how to be determined, stay strong and be kind to all.

And we thank all the people that touched Moms life from family and friends, her Doctors Pat Logan and Spencer Wilson and caregivers at the hospital and Manor. You all were very special to Mom

And so today we all say thank you to our Matriarch

Vicky and Alvin, Scott, Angie & John, Emily and Chelsea

Jane and Rick, Ryan & Megan, Oscar, Arlo, Esme. Amy and Marc, Ava, Keanan, Kade, Kenna as well as many nieces and nephews are all here to carry on the many wonderful traditions and life skills we learned from the best. Thank you Mom, we love you and will miss you but we will all make you proud.

There will be a private family gathering at a later date

Gramma's family

So many things come to mind when thinking of Grandma, aka "G" & then "GG" once the great grandkids came along. I loved our phone calls. I always had to make sure I had at least a half hour free if calling her, as we always had so much to say and laugh about. I will remember afternoon tea parties, picnics on the rocks at the cottage, yearly adventures (which she used to tease me by not telling me where we were going) So many special times at the lake, in Florida, at their cozy home on Birch Dr, just anywhere we were together. I admire the strong woman she showed us all we could be. Her love for her family was above all else. I am so blessed to have had her in my life, as well as my daughters. I will remember her daily and know that she is now back with Pa the love of her life and watching over us all. Rest in peace Gramma......love your Angel.

Please accept our sincere sympathy on the passing of your dear mother . What a beautiful lady she was. Ever the supportive wife and mother, but oh so proud of her grandchildren. She always had time for a chat whenever we would meet and she'd be sure to tell me about her grands. You have all been blessed to have had Marg in your lives for such a long time so I know that your memories will sustain you through these next few months. God bless you all - and thank you Marg, for all that you did to make our community a better place.

Margaret Wright’s family

I am so sorry to hear about Marg’s passing. We had so much fun together while the guys (Al and Gord) did their thing at newspaper meetings and conventions. Marg and I one time tramped down Spadina st in To. trying to find a gift for one of you gals. Also time at your cottage. We made a holiday out of it and had our boys there and Al got your boat out and they learned how to water ski.

I’m glad Judy and I got up to see her a few years ago…before Covid.
I can’t list all the times we met with your mom and dad. Many times in Florida playing golf.

Marg was a lovely, caring lady. The obit picture is lovely.

so many memories have surfaced since I read your kind note about your wonderful Mother. you are right her picture showed such a beautiful Lady.
my best memory is the time when our newspaper group was invited to the cottage for a few days. I was late arriving because I was still working. Marg was so calm and provided all the meals for all of us. I think I saw 10 or 12 pies baked ahead by her. I think there were at least 6 couples. It was such s delightful time for me.
You will all miss her for sure. Thank You so much for letting me know.

Your parents were indeed the models of lives well lived.
Lives dedicated to their family, friends and community – good decent people, positive examples for all of us.
My parents were lucky to be their close friends. Over the decades they had many many happy times together.
We miss them all and send our sincere condolences.
