WILLIAMS, Bonnie

1938 - 2024

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bonnie Elsie Williams (nee Macpherson) at the age of 85 on January 26,2024 at Extendicare nursing home in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.

Bonnie was the firstborn child and daughter to Bill and Lillian Macpherson born on July 27, 1938. Bonnie will be remembered as a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to all those who knew her.

Bonnie graduated from KLCVI high school’s class of 1957 and went on to pursue her dream and passion of becoming a school teacher. Her first teaching assignment was in Kearns, Ontario. She then went on to teach school in Virginiatown, King Kirkland, eventually moving back to Kirkland Lake to teach at Queen Elizabeth, Federal, and Central public schools. Bonnie obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English from Laurentian University while teaching full time and raising three boys. Bonnie retired from teaching after 30 plus years of both a successful and rewarding teaching career.

Bonnie Married Graham Williams on July 1 st 1961 and celebrated 54 years of Marriage until the passing of her beloved Husband Graham in 2015. Bonnie and Graham had three boys, Graham, Bill and Mark. Bonnie so loved and cherished her sons. Bonnie had a great love of figure skating in her youth and continued to teach figure skating in Virginiatown and Kirkland Lake for many years. Bonnie was a very active member of the Saint Peters Anglican Church community. She was long term member of the Church Choir as well as a member of the vestry. Bonnie was also a member of various social clubs and volunteer organizations such as The Kirkland Lake Arts Council, Interlink Choir, Royal Canadian Legion woman’s auxiliary, and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Bonnie grew up In Kirkland Lake and spent her youthful Summers at their Family log cabin on Kenogami Lake where she enjoyed swimming and most of all sailing with her father in their Sailboat aptly named “The Bonnie”. Bonnie and Graham purchased the Four Acre Point property in Kenogami (which was adjacent to the Macpherson family log cabin) in the early 80’s as their summer cottage. This family cottage would be renovated by Graham to become their home on the lake for many years. Bonnie was always an active woman enjoying the outdoors with her particular love and enjoyment for blueberry picking, skiing, skating, sailing, singing, and taking boat rides down the river between Kenogami and Swastika.

Bonnie was predeceased by her parents Bill and Lillian (Stacey) Macpherson, and her Husband Graham. She is survived by her sisters Caroline (Colin) Cameron of Brampton, Linda (Dan) Reid of Milton, Brother Don (Mary) of Whitby, Sons Graham (Veronique), Bill (Rose) and Mark (Stella). Grand Children, Leon (Heather), Lilli (Derek), Lazar, Ludo, Lyndsay, Mac and Hope, Great Grand children Nash and Cole, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Losing someone so close is difficult, no words can ease what you are feeling. Your mom will always remain in our hearts and memories, especially those from Algonquin Ave days. Look back on your memories and find comfort knowing she raised a great family.

Sorry for your loss. I send you my sincere condolences. The obituary brought back some good memories (especially 4 acre point in Kenogami and I will add 17 Algonquin, I lived at 4 Algonquin for a part of my life). In this sad time always remember the good and she will live on in your hearts forever.

Williams Family

We are so sorry to hear of Bonny's passing. She was a great , pleasant person and we so loved when she dropped in after picking up her mail each day to have a little chat with her and share a cup of tea, or if we could talk her into a dark rum and coke which wasn't often. Taffy thought he fooled her about his trip down to have a few, but she was too smart to fall for that. She loved you all so much and we join with you in sorry . Kenogami has lost a wonderful resident. Gods speed to you all.

The Williams Family, The MacPhersons and their families (Carolyn, Don, Lynda)

It is with a heavy heart that we pass on our condolences. Bonnie was indeed special. I remember when she stayed with us in Toronto while attending teachers college. She was full of vim, vigour and personality. We would be singing and dancing in the backyard. We enjoyed every moment she spent with us. And what a treat to ride back and forth from Kirkland with her, singing and joking in the car to the music on the radio. In later times, it was most enjoyable to have time with her and her family at the cottage at Kenogami. As time progressed, we would be so pleased to meet with her at her sister Carolyn's home in Brampton and get up-dated on all her family activities.
She certainlywill be missed but does leave us all with wonderful memories.

So very sorry to hear of your sister Bonnies passing. It is a very long time since I have seen Bonnie, but believe it was our last visit to St Peter's Anglican Church when we were living up in Kirkland again. We shared a coffee at break time and had a really nice chat.
Hope you and your family are all okay, and again so very sorry for your loss.
Thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.

The Williams Family and Friends

The Williams family kept the Lessard family well stocked on crabapples, whether fresh off the tree or when the family moved to the lake, Bonnie sent them already preserved. During our coffee outings with other retired teachers, when I would bring her home we would get to gabbing in the car and more than once, I came home with the wrong cane. When I heard Bonnie was in Extendicare, my intention was always to go visit her. This was my lesson learned, tomorrow is not always promised.
