Condie, Delbert - Avis de décès | Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative

Condie, Delbert

CONDIE, Delbert

1928 - 2025

Delbert Robert Condie passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 19, 2025, at the age of 96. He is survived by his sons Derek (Susan) of Kenogami, Clint (Leanne) and Trevor (Amanda), both of Calgary. He is also survived by grandchildren Dustin of Montreal, Faye, Jane, Kate, Erica, Andrea and Caroline and one great grandchild Alice, all of Calgary, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Alice (nee Buchanan), by parents Ellswood and Lulu Evelyn Condie, and siblings Sanford (Henrietta), Vivian (Hugh) Boyle, Lindsay (Laurette), Glen (Joyce) as well as Alice's siblings Malcolm (Mildred) Buchanan and Shirley (Ivan) Clark.

Dad was born in Beachburg, Ontario on June 10, 1928 and moved with his family to Kirkland Lake as an infant. He worked at various mines in the area throughout his life including Sylvanite and Upper Canada before retiring from Macassa in 1989. He met his wife-to-be Alice in Kirkland Lake where they married in 1950 and raised their family before eventually moving to Larder Lake in 1969 where they lived for the next 50 years. Retirement saw them make frequent road trips to Western Canada to visit their children and grandchildren. Dad also made several motorcycle trips with his brother-in-law Speedy throughout North America. After Mom's passing in 2021, Dad moved back into Kirkland and lived on his own before spending his final year at Teck Pioneer Residence.

Dad was always committed to living a healthy, active lifestyle. This included rollerblading for which he achieved Facebook fame at 92, skating, cross country skiing with mom and friends, and his favourite activity, cycling. He biked highway 66 between Larder and Kirkland countless times over the years and made frequent trips to Alberta to cycle in the Rockies with family. Remarkably, he was still able to bicycle 90kms on his 90th birthday on his road bike. At 91 years of age, he embraced technology and purchased an electric bike (always letting us know that you still had to pedal it!) which served him well for the remainder of his life.

Many thanks to Charlie Brook at Lakeshore Apartments, as well as many of the residents who would take the time to chat with Dad in the lobby. The family also wishes to thank the kind staff at TPR for their care and attention in making his stay there comfortable.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Family

I spent many hockey games with Delbert at the V-town and Kirkland and Temiskaming area and Rouyon areas. We spent many parts of the weekends with our Hockey playing sons. We were so proud of our sons and each other's sons. .
Three periods and overtime are now over Delbert. Time for the new games up there with the final Referee.

I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. He always had a smile and friendly greeting and was ready for a chat when he sat in the lobby in the apt building where I visited my mom. I missed seeing him when he left. A life well lived.

Delbert’s Family

I met Delbert randomly at Kinross pond trail a few summers back where he was rollerblading whilst pushing his walker. I was simply amazed by his athleticism and had to meet him. He told me his name and age and very proudly told me the fact that he would also bike from Kirkland Lake to Larder Lake. I also saw him on his bicycle on the kinross trail and was happy to see he wore a bicycle helmet. He’s was a true inspiration and I will miss seeing him on the trail. May you rest in peace sir.

Sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to you all. Fond memories of chatting with him during public skating, seeing him on his bike and the last time I saw him was at Christmas while I played my guitar/sang for the Teck Pioneer Residence.

Uncle Delbert, The last of the family of that generation. Predeceased by three brothers and a sister. Delbert was proof of a long well lived life by staying healthy and exercising. It’s in the Condie DNA. The few times over the years I had the opportunity of sitting down and talking to my uncle I was inspired by a soft spoken man who was a good listener and shared his driven ways. Skating, roller blading, skiing, cycling. Imagine cycling 90 klms at 90 years of age. Quite incredible but not surprising. Our condolences to Derek, Clint ,Trevor and families. Randi & Jill Condie

I am very sad to receive the news regarding your Dad. Over the years I got to know Delbert while public skating in the rink, on the ski trails and occasionally while biking in the KL area . I always felt like a fairly active individual but your Dad certainly left me far behind! He was always an interesting and positive person and it was a pleasure to have known him!
My condolences to his family and many friends-Brian Hamilton
