DAVIS, Elizabeth

With great sadness, the family of Elizabeth May Pearl Davis announces her passing on May 1 at the age of 92 after a long battle with dementia. 

Born on July 21, 1929, to William and Margaret (Murison) Holland, Betty was a lifelong resident of Kirkland Lake who worked for many at the theatres and retail stores. She took great pride in serving the public and was known for her friendliness, generosity, and strong, feisty spirit. In those days, working at the ‘picture show’ was considered a glamorous occupation and Betty certainly looked the part. She was stunningly beautiful and enjoyed dressing up, dancing, and socializing with her friends. Betty never hesitated to help where needed and freely gave to those in need. She took pride in her Legion membership and enjoyed helping out during shop and stops and Remembrance Day services. 

Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ross Davis, a projectionist she met at the theatres who went on to work for Canada Post, her parents, William and Margaret, brothers Cecil and John Holland, her sister-in-law Lee Holland and her nephew, Edward Holland.  She is survived by her daughters Kelly (Don) and Lori (Walter), her grandson Christopher Jenings and great-granddaughter, Nora. Betty is also survived by her sister, Berna, sister-in-law Rita Holland, nieces Darlene (Nathan, predeceased) Yampolsky, Ingrid (Larry) Payne, Janice  (Bruce) Turner, and Deborah (Thomas) Caldwell, and nephew John (Sylvia) Holland. She is also survived by a number of great nephews and nieces.

Betty’s family would like to thank the staff at the Teck Pioneer Residence for their care, kindness, and compassion. We greatly appreciate everything you did for mom. Cremation has taken place with a memorial service planned for a later date.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your Mom. So many memories from Chaput …. Always so welcomed by both your parents. Spending time at your place and that summer at the drive in! And later years too when Lori and I worked together and I’d see her from time to time. She was one classy beautiful lady! A great friend to my father in their years at 60 Fifth.

Sad to hear of your families loss.
My dad always talked about his childhood, next door neighbors growing up on Baron St. in Kirkland Lake in the 1930's and 40's.
It wasn't until about 8 years ago that I actually met and sat down with Betty a few times to share some stories.
Betty was a sweet lady with the greatest smile.

I recall your sweet mom when your family lived across from us in Chaput Hughes and when I worked with her at the old Canadian Tire in downtown Kirkland Lake. I will always remember Betty as a kind and giving person. She lived next door to my family when I was a young boy, and would watch out for my brother and I, and keep a close eye on our house when we were away. Every Christmas I remember getting cards from Betty with a little candy money. All will always think of het fondly. Our condolences to your family.
