PERVIK, Artur

1925 - 2025

It is with much sadness that the family of Artur Pervik announces his death on September 18, 2025, at the age of 100 years.

Artur lived a long and full life, which began in rural Estonia. Unfortunately, WWII interrupted the normal course of events for people in many countries across the globe. Eventually, Artur made his way through post-war Europe and landed in Belgium, where he met and married “Malle.” Not long after, they emigrated from Belgium to Canada. After starting out as a logger in Northern Ontario, Artur moved on to enjoy an accomplished career in the gold-mining industry in the Kirkland Lake area. He attributed his success to keeping the lines of communication open with colleagues at every level of the operation. In addition to working a demanding job and raising a family, he found time to work a small farm with Malle in Marquis Township. They both took delight in sharing the produce from their garden with family and friends. Artur had a creative touch, which was evident, not only through his paintings and woodturning projects, but also in his appreciation for art. He was always an avid reader and an adventurous chef. He was very proud of his Estonian heritage and his contribution to the mining industry. And, he never got tired of hearing family members tell him “You look good!”

Many thanks to all who cared for and about him. He wanted to leave his loved ones with positive memories, as highlighted in the poem  “Afterglow” by Helen Lowrie Marshall.

“I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave
When life is done.”

Puhka rahus, Artur!

Ellen and Family

I am so sorry to hear about your father's passing, but I am so glad he made it to 100.
He had given me a bowl he made a couple of years ago, and I will treasure it forever.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I knew Art since a small child grew up 3 houses away. I had the honor of working for him a mentor and a wonderful man.

A gentleman and very accomplished man.

Pervik Family

SO sorry to hear of Art’s passing. Malle must have had her arms wide open.
Enjoyed standing on the corner and talking to them and later just Art. He’d always let me know when the hydrangeas were ready to be picked and dried. Both will be well remembered.

Dear Ellen,
I have many happy memories of trips to Kirkland Lake to visit your father and mother. They were both great cooks as I remember from the enticing smells from the bbq. I still have a couple of pieces of his woodworking efforts.
Relatives from Estonia also wish to extend their condolences. Specifically Maaja and Tiiu and Linda(Jaan's wife). Tiiu fondly remembers visiting your parents in KL many years ago.
My deepest sympathy to you and Gary and Enu and Doris and your children.

To the Pervik Family

Sadden to hear of Art’s passing and offering my sincere condolences but one can take solace that Art lived to be 100 years old ….what a feat…I had the opportunity to work with Art at Macassa mine and he taught me a lot about keeping those lines of communication open with all employees at all levels of the operation, as he took me under his wing to learn all about mining from a management perspective …Art could truly get the best out of each of us without even knowing it ….he had that special skill and am truly thankful for having the opportunity work with such a gentleman…RIP Art your shift is finally over

Art was my Mine Captain when I worked as a Shiftboss at MaCasssa.

So sorry to hear of your father’s passing. When we were growing up I often thought of him as a gentle giant. He was always quiet and pleasant.

All Arther's family.

I am so very sorry for your loss of your sweet and funny Arthur. I met Arthur while he was in hospital (PSW’s at the hospital). All of his stories and his memories he told fondly and proudly. I wonder if he ever got his letter from the king for reaching the age 100? I am so sorry you lost such a great man and I was sad to see of his passing. I hope everyone well of your family and healing in this loss.
